Spend the afternoon on Tillery, walk at Morrow Mountain, visit Town Creek or linger over a meal in town. There is a lake-area day here with or without a boat.

The Color Barre
The combined hair-and-yoga studio at 129 North Main Street lists yoga, Pilates and barre formats. Choose a class in the studio’s schedule and book before making it part of your day.
A published class description is not a class running on your selected date. Hair appointments are separate.
Reservoir Coffee
Use the back entrance of the Mercantile building at 110 North Main Street. Dedicated parking is on Campbell Street.
The reviewed café schedule lists Sunday closed. Check current opening hours and fit this stop around the booked class.
These are three separate stops; the class is not automatically booked. The park and downtown studio have different arrival points. Choose your own transport; no walking route or travel duration is promised.
Visit Town Creek’s outdoor mound and village, drive into Mount Gilead for Burger Shack, then choose a playground or walking-trail stop at Stanback Park.
Visit the outdoor mound and reconstructed village at 509 Town Creek Mound Road. The visitor center and gift shop are closed; restrooms remain available.
Posted outdoor hours: Tuesday–Saturday 9 AM–5 PM. Sunday, Monday and designated state holidays are closed. Keep the route and choose a suitable date.
Burger Shack
Head to Burger Shack at 200 South Wadesboro Boulevard for its published hamburger, hot-dog and fried-chicken choices.
Current regular opening hours are unconfirmed. Check before relying on this meal stop.
Stanback Park
Choose the playground or walking trail at Stanback Park on East Allenton Street. Park opening hours are not published.
The pool season runs Memorial Day–Labor Day, not year-round. Pavilion reservations and other arrangements are separate.
Town Creek is outside downtown; drive between the historic site and the town stops. No road travel time, open-now status or current park-condition all-clear is inferred.
Choose a designated trail, overlook or lake-facing park stop that suits your group. Driving directions lead to the park’s visitor address, not a particular trailhead.
The swimming pool is closed for the 2026 season. Check the official park page for current trail, rental and facility status.
Five Points Public House
Drive into downtown Albemarle for Five Points Public House at 304 East Main Street.
Check the restaurant’s current opening hours before making a dedicated trip.
This is a three-stop driving outing, not one continuous hiking route. Lake Tillery has no verified general public swimming beach. No boat rental or launch is required.
Start at Stony Mountain, continue to Uwharrie Vineyards, and finish at The Rustic at Dennis Vineyards. These are separate drives, not an affiliated tour.
Designed for Saturday; your selected date is Friday. All three stops are kept. Check each venue’s hours or choose a Saturday.
Hours & visit notes
Stony Mountain Vineyards
Begin at Stony Mountain’s tasting room, then leave time for the drive to your next stop.
Posted Saturday hours are 11 AM–6 PM, with the last tasting at 5 PM. Most Sundays are noon–5 PM by call-ahead confirmation.
Uwharrie Vineyards & Winery
A booked tasting or tour gives this stop a fixed time. For a glass in the wine room instead, follow the winery’s public opening hours.
Tastings and tours require advance reservations. The wine room’s Saturday hours are posted as noon–9 PM; these are different arrangements.
Dennis Vineyards
Finish at The Rustic at Dennis Vineyards. Keep food-truck and music arrangements separate from the public bar’s opening hours.
The public beer-and-wine bar posts Saturday hours of noon–10 PM and Sunday closed. Food trucks and music follow their own schedules.
Choose a designated driver or hired transportation if anyone will be tasting; never drive impaired. A non-Saturday selected date keeps all three stops and shows a warning. It does not reserve a tasting or imply every venue is open.
NC State Parks lists the fishing pier among its accessible facilities. Ask about the approach and your specific needs; the hiking trails are not marked accessible. Add a meal in Albemarle without needing a boat.
A half-mile paved path and picnic facilities are on Badin Lake, not Tillery. The floating fishing pier is under renovation, estimated through spring 2027, and smaller piers may also have restrictions. Do not rely on a usable pier for this visit.
A boat day might start at a public ramp, with a rental at Lilly's Bridge, or with a kayak delivered to an agreed meeting point. The Sandbar is a boat-only gathering place, not a drive-up or staffed public beach.
On land, Morrow Mountain offers a park visit with a view of the lake. Town Creek brings a different reason to come: a Pee Dee ceremonial site near Mount Gilead. A town museum and a nearby meal can make a shorter outing.
With children, or out of the rain
A park visit gives a family room to spend time outside without committing to a full boat day. Capel Centennial Park in Troy has a playground and skate park; Morrow Mountain brings trails and picnic options closer to Tillery. Its pool is closed for the 2026 season.
For indoor time, there is the Stanly County History Center, Badin Historic Museum, Mount Gilead Museum, Trilogy Books or an Albemarle cinema. Small museums have limited schedules. Town Creek's visitor center is currently closed, so its open mound and village are an outdoor visit.
Piney Point Golf Club in Norwood welcomes visiting golfers and offers tee-time booking. It is a useful west-side choice when a round, rather than a launch, is the day's main activity. Book through the club and leave time for a meal in Norwood afterward.
Across the lake, Tillery Tradition in Mount Gilead describes itself as a private club. Ask about an eligible guest arrangement before planning to play; a course appearing on a visitor map does not promise public tee times. For a wider search, Explore includes other regional courses.
History, forest and town events
Town Creek and the town museums tell different parts of the region's history. Morrow Mountain and the Uwharrie trailheads offer distinct outdoor trips. A named trailhead is the right starting point for a walk in the forest.
Festivals, music and farm programs give some visits a particular date. The calendar keeps those alongside their organizer's information. Wineries make another regional outing, with reservations where needed and a designated driver.
Biscoe’s park, beyond pool season
Deaton-Monroe Park at 221 Mill Street has a walking trail, playground equipment, courts and picnic space. The park’s year-round facilities are separate from its summer swimming pool.
Biscoe’s published 2026 pool schedule ended with Labor Day, September 7. Do not plan an October swim from the undated reservation calendar. Use the town’s current parks information for a later pool season or a shelter booking.
A shorter Mount Gilead outing
The free Mount Gilead Museum is on West Allenton Street, and the antiques mall is on North Main Street. Confirm the volunteer museum opening before combining the two; the antiques mall follows its own Wednesday–Sunday schedule.
For a meal, Sacred Grounds provides a downtown coffee stop, while Burger Shack serves breakfast and home-style food by road. Town Creek’s open mound and reconstructed village make a different, outdoor history visit; its visitor center remains closed.
Choose a Badin park for the kind of break you want
Pine Street Park is a wooded pause with benches, picnic tables and a swing set. West Badin Park has a playground, open space and basketball courts. Badin Community Recreation Park is the ballfield and soccer choice, with a small playground and parking.
Pair a park stop with Badin’s museum buildings when their limited openings fit. These town parks are separate from Morrow Mountain and do not establish swimming access to either lake.

Frames on Main brings custom framing, gifts and local handmade crafts to 105 North Main Street. Memory Lane adds refurbished furniture and decor at 109 North Main. Coffee at Sacred Grounds and a meal at Luna’s can keep the outing in downtown Mount Gilead.
The two shop listings are undated and give no opening schedule. Check before making one shop the reason for the trip; Town Creek and the lake accesses are separate outings from this downtown walk.
Arrange the group, then choose the activity
School or research visits at Montgomery Sheep Farm, Starworks workshops and Town Creek group activities need their own arrangements. A museum group tour does not establish a school curriculum. New London and the two distinct Oakboro museums have separate contact and arrival instructions.
For children, compare the actual activity: interactive history exhibits differ from an axe-throwing session with a minimum thrower age. Town Creek’s mound and village are outdoors while its visitor center remains closed. Check the selected workshop’s age rules rather than assuming a venue is all-ages.
Choose an indoor visit with the right expectations
Starworks’ School House Gallery is free to visit. Glass-studio viewing can pause for lessons, maintenance or lunch; call the gallery on the day if watching glassmaking is the reason for the trip. A visit does not reserve a demonstration or hands-on workshop.
At the Stanly County History Center, the main gallery includes veterans’ oral histories, cotton carding and an interactive telephone switchboard. Historic-house tours are separate arrangements; check individual interactive availability on arrival.
Plan a group picnic, not just a park visit
Chuck Morehead Picnic Shelter 1 lists a 30-person capacity; City Lake Shelter 1 lists 25 people and half/full-day rentals. General park hours do not reserve a shelter. Use each exact city booking record and confirm fees, cancellation, accessible-route suitability and the agreed arrival point.
Choose a Badin Lake picnic arrangement
King’s Mountain Point has free unreserved individual picnic sites and a separately reserved group pavilion. Check the exact booking slot and capacity, bring drinking water and keep the fishing-pier construction warning in view. This is Badin Lake, not Lake Tillery waterfront.
A short downtown walk or a longer greenway?
Troy lists the 1¼-mile Troy Walks route through downtown neighborhoods and Main Street. Compare it with the longer Nature Trail greenway when choosing a shorter town visit. Check the town’s route information first: a precise start, parking, surface and accessibility are not established here, and the town-office address is not a verified trailhead.

The Sandbar
North Lake Tillery · On Lake Tillery
The Sandbar is a boat-only gathering place on Lake Tillery. Getting there is part of the outing, so it belongs in a boat-day plan rather than a drive-up picnic or beach trip.
Boat access only. This is not a staffed swimming beach. Water depth and conditions vary; approach slowly and use ordinary safe-boating judgment. Coordinates are a planning reference, not water navigation.
Morrow Mountain connects an overlook and wooded trails with the upper end of Lake Tillery. It is a natural starting point for a day with both park time and a look at the water.
The swimming pool is closed for the 2026 season. Boat rentals and day-use areas have separate operating times. Check the park's current notices before departure.
The Uwharrie National Forest opens up a longer land-based trip beyond Lake Tillery: hiking, camping, equestrian routes and motorized trails across separate recreation areas.
The visitor center and gift shop are closed. Admission to the outdoor site is free; restrooms remain available. Designated state holidays are excluded from the posted visiting schedule.
Explore Badin’s company-town history across the main museum, the Firehouse Museum and a restored 1915 French apartment. Admission is free, with volunteer-guided visits.
Tuesday and Sunday openings may change for holidays or events. The French apartment has entrance and interior stairs; check access needs before visiting.
