Boating rules and safety
North Carolina boating laws, required equipment, no-wake rules, education, and enforcement come from NC Wildlife. Carry the required wearable life jacket for each person and check the current rule for children and vessel type.
Fishing licenses and health advice
NC Wildlife supplies fishing licenses and harvest regulations. NC DHHS supplies fish-consumption advice: a fish being legal to keep does not settle how often someone should eat it. Check the health advice for Lake Tillery and the Yadkin–Pee Dee system before planning a meal from the catch.
Public boat access
A public wildlife access area is different from a marina, private campground launch, or paddle access. Explore labels the verified access type; use the agency status table before relying on a ramp.
Lake level, releases and shoreline authority
NOAA NWPS reports the MTGN7 pool elevation using a USGS observation. Duke Energy operates the project and provides shoreline and lake-operation information. Recreational releases from Tillery Dam concern the Pee Dee River downstream, a different outing from paddling the lake. Use Duke's current information for a release-dependent trip; a gauge reading does not prove ramp or dock usability.
Swimming and freshwater conditions
No general public swimming beach on Lake Tillery has been verified here. The Town of Badin advertises swimming at Badin Lake, which is a separate destination. Morrow Mountain's pool is closed for the 2026 season. Follow site rules and current notices; neither a clear-looking lake nor an absence of weather alerts certifies water quality. NC DEQ advises keeping people and pets away from suspected algal blooms.
Morrow Mountain and Uwharrie
Morrow Mountain State Park has trails and facilities on Lake Tillery. Uwharrie National Forest extends the trip into separate recreation areas and trailheads. Each agency publishes its own access and closure notices.
Food, supplies and the last stop in town
Explore's Groceries & Supplies category helps place the food-and-ice stop on your route. Coffee & Sweets is separate from full meals. Lilly's Bridge Marina also has a shop for drinks, snacks and boating supplies, but a marina shop is not a substitute for a full grocery run. Check the operator when you need a particular item or an early pickup.
Restrooms, mobility needs and cleanup
Choose the actual stop before relying on a facility. Morrow Mountain's staff and accessibility guide can help with a park visit; Town Creek's current notice confirms restrooms while its visitor center is closed. A map pin for a launch does not promise toilets, drinking water or an accessible path. Bring water and a bag for the day's trash, use available receptacles and take the rest away with you.
Both counties and the wider Uwharries
Visit Stanly covers Albemarle and the western side's wider visitor choices. Montgomery County tourism and Discover Uwharrie cover the eastern side and inland forest trips, with a welcome center in Troy. Start with the town and lake you mean to visit: a regional recommendation may be on Badin Lake or farther into the forest, not on Tillery.
