Putting in on Lake Tillery
Lilly's Bridge, Swift Island, Norwood and Stony Mountain public accesses include paddle or canoe use. These are shared launching areas, so prepare the craft and gear out of the way of trailers and boats using the ramp.
Morrow Mountain offers a park-based alternative and seasonal boathouse rentals. The ramp and boathouse are separate facilities with different purposes. The public-access guide links the launching locations; the park page carries current rental and facility notices.
Renting a craft or arranging an outing
Lake Tillery Kayaking arranges delivery and pickup for Tillery, Badin Lake or Falls Reservoir. Agree the actual meeting point with the operator rather than navigating to an assumed office. Tillery Boat Rentals offers paddle options from Lilly's Bridge Marina.
Ask whether the arrangement includes equipment only, a guided outing or transport. For a one-way trip, put-in, take-out and shuttle arrangements need to be settled together. The rental guide covers the booking details that also matter for smaller craft.
Lake paddling and river routes
Lake Tillery, the Uwharrie River and neighboring reservoirs appear together in regional trip ideas, but they are not one simple continuous route. A river trip can involve different access, moving water and a vehicle waiting at the take-out.
Use current agency maps and a route briefing from the operator where relevant. This visitor map does not provide a dam passage or portage route. Keep clear of restricted areas and never treat a nearby map pin as evidence of a navigable connection.
Leaving time to get back
Conditions can look calm at the launch while wind and boat wakes affect more exposed water. Wear an appropriate life jacket, review the forecast and alerts, and keep the route within the group's abilities. The gauge cannot confirm safe passage.
The access site's closing time belongs in the plan, along with time to load the craft. If the weather does not support the outing, a Morrow Mountain or town visit is another option. A paddle launch is not a public swimming beach.
A Uwharrie rental or guided paddle
River Daisy lists a single kayak at $50 per day, a tandem kayak or canoe at $70 per day, and guided group tours at $60–$75 per person depending on the outing. Paddles and life jackets are included; delivery costs extra. Call 704-985-6002 to arrange the route, date and pickup.
River Daisy’s booking page lists 4021 NC 109 in Troy, the same street address as Eldorado Outpost. Confirm where to meet rather than treating that address as a launch or a guarantee of walk-in boats. Rental availability is not an access or weather all-clear.
Keep Troy’s river access separate from Tillery
The Town of Troy describes a Little River access at the old Smitherman Dam off Troy Candor Road. That is a different waterway from Lake Tillery. The town describes its connection to the Nature Trail as a future trailhead, so use the existing Glen Road or Roy J. Maness entrances for the greenway walk.
For a Tillery paddle, choose one of the lake’s named accesses or arrange a rental pickup. Do not use a generic Troy boating or river-search result as directions to the lake.
Agree the handoff and the equipment
Lake Tillery Kayaking arranges delivery to an agreed shoreline and includes paddles and personal flotation devices. Confirm the exact launch and time; Lilly’s Bridge public access is not the marina or Hydro Road bait shop.
Tillery Boat Rentals lists included life jackets but separately advises bringing infant jackets. Confirm ages, sizes and who supplies the right equipment before booking. Its October–April phone arrangements differ from the main-season return window. Park boathouse rentals are seasonal: a map marker is not evidence that craft are available today.
Pack for the water, not just the forecast
Check the named launch, forecast, return time and equipment included by your local rental operator first. Warm air does not establish warm water. The below-dam reading is an outflow reference, not the temperature in every lake cove.
- Choose a correctly fitted life jacket; confirm the craft, paddle and safety equipment with the operator.
- Protect essentials from water, carry drinking water and dress for immersion. Leave the route and expected return with someone ashore.
