Hours source & corrections

Published schedule ↗ · checked 2026-10-09.

Based on published America/New_York hours, not live venue confirmation. Unlisted days and unverified holiday changes remain uncertain. Meal availability can have a separate cutoff. Routine monthly rechecking does not make a supported schedule disappear when due. Structured sources can be checked automatically; other sources need manual review.

The gallery and historic houses

The self-guided gallery is at 157 North Second Street. The Daniel Freeman House, also known as the Freeman-Marks House, and I.W. Snuggs House are separate tour stops at 112 North Third Street.

Call the museum to arrange a guided house tour before visiting; do not plan on a drop-in tour.

The main gallery connects Native American history with local home life, education, transport, industry and military history. Visitors can listen to World War II veterans' oral histories, try cotton carding and learn how to transfer calls on an interactive telephone switchboard. These are gallery experiences; a guided visit to the historic houses still needs separate arrangements.

The Margaret Johnston Heritage Room is inside the History Center at 157 North Second Street. Its holdings include cemetery records, maps, family files and local-newspaper microfilm dating to the late 1800s.

Ancestry Library Edition is available on Internet computers at the History Center or a county library, not as a from-home service. Bring the names, places and dates you want to investigate and ask staff which records or equipment may help; a visit does not promise a particular research result.
