Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site

A self-guided outdoor visit

The reconstructed ceremonial center includes the mound and townhouse, east lodge and mortuary or clan lodge. The quarter-mile river-bottom trail has outdoor exhibits about plants and animals native to the Little River valley. Picnic tables sit beside the parking area.

Self-guided admission is free. The current notice keeps the mound and village open Tuesday–Saturday, 9 AM–5 PM, with restrooms available; the visitor center and gift shop have been closed since July 28, 2026. Call 910-439-6802 about a group visit or a specific access need.

Town Creek’s visitor page links the statewide group-request form. Give up to three preferred dates and times, in order. Sending the form does not reserve a visit: site staff must contact you and finalize the arrangements. Ask which activities are currently available while the visitor center and gift shop remain closed.

Scheduled groups can enquire about hands-on activities as well as the outdoor site. Use the official group-request process and wait for staff confirmation; do not assume every activity or indoor space is available. The visitor-center and gift-shop closure qualification still applies.

The official visitor page specifically describes the east lodge and mortuary as accessible. That is not a whole-site accessibility guarantee: confirm the route and the facilities you need with site staff, especially while the visitor center remains closed.
